Icingdeath

Drizzt Do’Urden is a name that many with an interest in fantasy have heard. I know that he has been a character that I have watched grow over the years. I have enjoyed the adventures that he has gone through and the moral choices he has had to make along the way. Drizzt is a character that has a hard time overlooking his past.

For those of you that haven’t been a part of the series or a part of Dungeons and Dragons, I’ll give a short overview of Drizzt. Drizzt is a drow elf. Drow are known for their extremely hostile natures and they are a race known for evil. Drizzt snuck away from his people and took on a life on the surface of the planet. He has been an outcast living because of his race, until he met his friends in Icewind Dale.

Drizzt is a character that has a moral compass. I think that is what draws me to him so much in the stories. He always has a moral decision that he has to overcome and it normally involves a fight in one way, shape, or form. That is where his two scimitars come into the fight.

Drizzt carries two weapons with him in the earlier years. They are Icingdeath and Twinkle. This blog is going to focus on Icingdeath. Drizzt found Icingdeath in a treasure pile of the dragon Igenloakastimizillian, the white wyrm. Drizzt and Wulfgar killed the dragon and found the weapon in his treasure.

Icingdeath is a scimitar. The hilt is made of adamantite and the edge of the blade is diamond, assuring that it can always be sharp. The weapon also contains an added benefit, it is a frostbrand weapon. It absorbs heat and can even break a small portion in a fire wall. The weapon absorbs the heat of a nearby fire and protects the caster from magical spells of fire.

There isn’t a ton of information about Icingdeath out there, but to see it in action you can read any Forgotten Realms book about Drizzt to see it in action. It definitely has a long history of battle.
